Who doesn't love cinnamon?

For so long, cinnamon has been used widely as a spice for culinary delicacies, pastries, beverages, and even as a fragrance. The beautiful combination of its unforgettable aroma and strong flavor leaves an impact on anyone who experiences it. In fact, it's one of the indicators of when Christmas is already around the corner. But beyond its amazing taste and aroma is its ability to provide various health benefits. At the end of the day, there's nothing better than enjoying something that also keeps us healthy, right?

With that said, we'll be telling you everything about Cinnamon Tea and how this delicious beverage can potentially change your life.

What is cinnamon tea?

Cinnamon tea is a bittersweet beverage that provides various health benefits. Although cinnamon is a good additive to curries and smoothies, having it as your morning tea is simply indescribable. This tea is made from the Cinnamomum/cinnamon trees, particularly from their inner barks. These barks curl up once they are dried, resulting in the well-known cinnamon sticks. These sticks are then steeped in boiling water or ground into a powder that can be used to make the cinnamon tea.

Cinnamon tea can be made on its own, but cinnamon is also great to blend with other ingredients. For instance, our Masala Chai tea and Turmeric latte both have cinnamon in them, further enhancing their taste and aroma.

Pure cinnamon tea has an undeniably good flavoring and smell but what really makes it vital is the compounds in it. These compounds may provide various benefits to the body such as reducing inflammation, lowering blood sugar levels, and aiding weight loss. It's impressive how one cup of tea can help improve your health and overall quality of life!

What does cinnamon tea taste like?

If you've had a taste of cinnamon buns or cinnamon rolls, you probably have an idea of what cinnamon tastes like. Especially during the holidays, cinnamon is basically just everywhere. But when it comes to pure cinnamon tea, it is defined to have a woody, sweet, and savory taste that can be perfectly blended with other ingredients. In fact, it's cinnamon's own versatility that makes it so popular and memorable. It can be mixed with rooibos tea or any sort of flowery tea and it will be amazing. If this is your first time trying cinnamon tea and are afraid you won’t like it, then don't worry. The smell alone is enticing enough to make you have a sip.

Two types of cinnamon tea

There are many variations of the cinnamon tea but they often get grouped into two categories: Cassia and Ceylon.

Cassia Cinnamon

This is the common type of cinnamon sticks tea that you can find in a grocery store. These are darker brown in color, are stronger in flavor, and are rolled into thick, single sheets.

Ceylon Cinnamon

This is considered to be the "pure cinnamon tea". It has a pale brown color with thin multiple layers inside. It possesses a milder, more delicate flavor that some people prefer but it can be more expensive and harder to find in stores.

What are the health benefits cinnamon tea can give?

There are so many possible health benefits cinnamon tea can provide. Its natural compounds have abilities to make our lives healthier and better. This way, you can drink cinnamon tea, not just for the sake of enjoyment but also to reap its benefits.

If you drink cinnamon tea, there is a possibility for you to reduce your risk of developing serious diseases. Cinnamon tea is rich in antioxidants, particularly polyphenols, that help fight free radicals. These are molecules that damage cells that lead to health conditions like cancer, diabetes, and heart disease. Furthermore, research suggests that drinking cinnamon tea can help increase the total antioxidant capacity in your body.

2. Reduces inflammation and improves heart health

The compounds in cinnamon reportedly may reduce inflammation markers. This is great because inflammation is often considered to be the source of many chronic illnesses like heart disease. Drinking cinnamon tea may also help increase levels of good cholesterol which helps improve heart health by getting rid of the excess cholesterol from the blood vessels.

3. Lowers blood sugar levels

Diabetes is a tough enemy to beat. This is why it's important to manage and regulate your blood sugar levels while you still can. Cinnamon tea can help with that! Compounds in cinnamon are found to be contributors to lowering insulin resistance, therefore increasing insulin's effectiveness to lower blood sugar levels.

4. Helps with weight loss

Cinnamon tea may aid in weight loss. Several studies highlighted the connection between cinnamon intake and fat loss. It's also being linked to reductions in waist circumference. However, a lot of these studies did not succeed in distinguishing between fat loss and muscle loss. This study was the only one that found that the subjects who participated lost 0.7% of fat mass but increased 1.1% of muscle mass after consuming 10 grams (5 teaspoons) of cinnamon powder per day for a total of 12 weeks.

5. Relieves menstrual cramps

For women, having a period can be the worst. Menstrual cramps and PMS symptoms make the experience unbearable at times. According to this study, women were provided with 3 grams of cinnamon or placebo each day for the first 3 days of their menstrual cycle. Those with cinnamon experienced a much less painful menstrual cycle compared to those who had a placebo.

6. Fights skin aging and acne

Want to stay young and flawless? Maybe having a cup of cinnamon tea from time to time would help! According to this research, cinnamon may help promote the formation of collagen and increase skin hydration and elasticity. All these can help improve the appearance of skin aging.
